2009 Trainee of the Year

2009 Trainee of the YearOutstanding commitment, exceptional organisational skills and a ‘can do’ attitude saw Betty (Bow) Cover as winner of UNE Partnerships 2009 Trainee of the Year award.

When Bow applied for the receptionist position at The Cabin Medical Practice in Yass, she was a stand-out candidate with great communication and time management skills. Working for a busy rural medical practice proved a steep learning curve for Bow, so when the opportunity to enrol in UNE Partnerships’ Certificate III in Business (Medical Administration) was offered to her, she accepted with enthusiasm.

Through her excellent time management skills and support from her practice manager and colleagues, Bow completed her traineeship in only 8 months. At team meetings, Bow presented new ideas generated from material in her coursework and discussed how it could be practically applied to the workplace. Her sense of enthusiasm and readiness to accept change proved extremely useful, particularly when technological changes required new procedures. Bow’s adaptability and enthusiasm has motivated other members of her team to accept that learning is a positive experience.

According to Bow, “My life changed when I started this traineeship, along with a new career. My self esteem has returned to 100%. It has made me a confident, helpful, understanding, efficient professional. The training has made me a more valuable employee by improving my knowledge base through UNE Partnerships’ traineeship”.

A special presentation was made to Bow at her workplace by Richard Doyle, Managing Director of UNE Partnerships on Monday 7 December, in the presence of her work colleagues and family.
